Poplar Grove Plantation is a
Louisiana plantation home unlike any other. An Oriental inspired pavilion built in New Orleans for an international
exposition, it is the closest plantation home to Baton Rouge, located on the bank of the
Mississippi River only minutes from Louisiana's capital city. |

|
Poplar Grove
was moved 200 miles by barge on the Mississippi River and adapted as the main residence of
a sugar plantation and has been home to generations of the Wilkinson family, descendants
of General James Wilkinson, first Governor of the Upper Louisiana Territory.
An exquisitely restored structure, it retains
the warmth of a private home yet is accessible to the public. Poplar Grove is furnished
with museum quality antiques and art.
Poplar Grove's lush gardens provide the perfect
setting for your visit. |
